The Audi A1 is a sportback vehicle which comes with both quality and cutting edge style. Pre-equipped with a 1.4 liter TFSI engine creating or 110 kW, or 150 horsepower, and is quite powerful for a hybrid vehicle. Along with the TFSI engine, and a 27 horsepower electric motor which is combined within the vehicle’s drivetrain, gives it an extra 110.63 lbs-ft of torque during acceleration. The TFSI and electric motors work simulaneously when accelerating, and allows performance when it’s needed. Along with the engines is a newly designed “ESP” handling system, which allows the A1 to ensures optimum power from the engine to the tires for enhanced performance.
Another excellent quality of the A1 is given by the electric motor, which allows the car to be powered solely by electricity, allowing the car run with zero emissions. The motor is powered by Lithium-Ion batteries, and allows the A1 a range of 100 kilometers in one charge and only needs to be plugged in to a wall outlet to recharge. Features such as start and stop aid along with energy recharge during operation give the Audi a great amount of reduction in fuel consumption, almost 30% less than running on the combustion engine alone. Although the A1 may have Sport-like qualities, for instance a 0-62 mph in just 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 125 miles per hour, it only requires just 3.9 liters of premium grade fuel every 60 miles.
Exterior
What makes the Audi A1 different from other Audi models is not only the two extra doors that were added, its the stronger and sleek qualities that were given that make the vehicle so unique.
Interior
The interior of the vehicle comes with four person seating, and plenty of space for this type of vehicle. All of the internal components such as the center console and the dashboard are designed to focus their locations around the driver of the vehicle. Changes in the actual seats have also been made, focusing on ergonomic designs to make the seating not only comfortable but have a made with special materials to give it a high-class appearance. The materials can either be white or red, and both give a greater sense of spaciousness inside of the vehicle.
Audi Drive Select
The Audi A1 also features a “Drive Select” option that is offered in current Audi models. The “Drive Select” feature allows the vehicle operator to pre-select special configurations of the drivetrain, along with shifting characteristics and shock absorption. The “Drive Select” system comes by default in “efficiency” mode, which allows both the engine and transmission to work with the accelerator making adjustments to acceleration less jumpy. It gives a sense of relaxed driving, and allows a tremendous decrease in fuel consumption and emissions. Another mode offered by the “Drive Select” system is the “sport” mode. It allows the A1 to create additional power and torque from the electric motor and creates great acceleration and power, and can simply be done at the push of a button.
Chassis
The chassis of the vehicle is designed for sport-style driving and handling and allows quick cornering without much loss in power. Along with these qualities, the chassis also provides a level of comfort and control that has yet to be seen in similar models of it’s class.
The brakes of the A1 are very large, coming with a diameter of 12.28 inches in the front. Brake discs of this size allow the A1 to stop on command, and help to do so safely and quickly. The steering system of the vehicle is an electromechanical system, with a “speed-sensitive” power assistance that allows even better handling at higher speeds. It allows optimal handling which is designed for low sensitivity to driving surfaces, and helps to lower fuel consumption.
